FORA, 110 years of struggle

The May 25, 1901, met in Buenos Aires around 50 delegates representing 35 companies and workers held the founding congress of the Federación Obrera Argentina, as originally called the FORA. This organization empowers workers' societies, organized the first general strikes and ideological lines gradually dawning that they were characteristic. The FOA, as well as strengthen and unite the federal agencies increased the levels of solidarity among workers that were involved. Sporadic movements prior to 1901 industrial action became better coordinated and organized, declaring the first general strikes.

Although the FOA was composed mostly anarchist elements, also had an important participation of socialist activists. Such an alliance, due to the incompatibility of aims and methods, could not last long. The Socialists tried to organize the Federation through the creation of a Federal Committee, formed by a delegate from each section with resolving power, and an Executive Committee elected at the Congress. However, finally won the anarchist proposal that the Federation was formed from a relations committee, which functioned as an intermediary between the Federated Societies and without resolving power. The Socialist Party sought political participation in democratic government, which was necessary for political support of the Labor Federation, and became its bureaucratization and centralization necessary, carrying out a partial claims reformist struggle and immediate improvements, the anarchists, who despised political participation, they believed that the Federation was an organization in which all workers had the same role, without leaders on resolving power, and considering the struggle for economic reforms as a means to social revolution and anarchist communism.

After numerous avatars and 60 and 70 years old anarchist militants, together with young people akin to libertarian ideas rebuilt the FORA, which continues today organized in Various Trades Unions and Resistance Societies and is affiliated to International Association (TIA ) as the Argentina section of this world organization, the economic and social crisis in Argentina since the late 90's has made the association has a continuous growth in recent years. The FORA continues today as a working anarchist organization, but away from the unions. Its activities are of a propaganda, support, activities and solidarity with the union conflicts. Encouraging the development of resistance societies and associations of independent workers. Some of the groups that comprise it are located in La Boca, San Martín, Mendoza, Neuquen and Rio Gallegos. Labor Organization publishes the newspaper.
